Alabama Chamber Orchestra

Carlton McCreery, Director of Orchestras

The University Orchestra was renamed the Huxford Symphony Orchestra of the University of Alabama in 2000 as the result of a generous endowment donated by Ms. Camilla Huxford, a graduate of UA. A full orchesra of roughly 60 musicians, the ensenble plays a wide variety of music, including works by Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, Mahler, Wagner, and many other masters. It also presents many performances of contemporary works.

The Alabama Chamber Orchestra, a smaller ensemble of 15-30 players, presents smaller works, such as Baroque Concerti Grossi, early Classical-era symphonies and contemporary chamber works which are large enough to require a conductor.

Between the two orchestras, 10-15 concerts are presented each year.
