As per the School of Music section of the 2004-06 undergraduate catalog, the following courses are required for the B.M. in voice performance. These courses are specific to the B.M. performance degree in voice and are required in addition to the University's core curriculum and the general music group required of all performance majors.
Note that most classes are offered on a rotating basis. The diction sequence and the song literature sequence are generally taught in alternating years; please consult Dr. Fleming for scheduling information.
- MUS 254 Diction for Singers I (3 hours). Introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet; study and practice of Italian, Latin, and English diction. Syllabus.

- MUS 255 Diction for Singers II (3 hours). Study and practice of German and French diction. Syllabus.
- MUS 444 Vocal Pedagogy (2 hours). Introduction to the concepts, methods, and materials essential to effective teaching of the singing voice. Syllabus.
- MUS 474 Song Literature I (3 hours). Survey of the performance criteria and historical significance of the solo song literature of the United States, the British Isles, Germany, Austria, France, and Italy. Performance and class participation are required.
- MUS 475 Song Literature II (3 hours). Continuation of MUS 474.
Students in the voice program register for applied study under the following course numbers. The number of hours for which each student registers may vary depending on their degree program.
- MUA 174 is for voice majors and voice principals (music therapy, music education, music administration, or general music) in the freshman and sophomore years.
- MUA 374 is for voice majors and voice principals (music therapy or music education) in the junior and senior years. Students must pass the sophomore qualifying examination (MUA 199) before enrolling in 300-level study.
- MUA 274 is for music majors studying voice as a secondary instrument.
- MUA 134 is for music minors and non-music majors. Enrollment for non-majors is on a space-available basis, and is by audition only.

While this guide is intended to serve as an aid in planning, it is only an example and is not intended to replace the advising process. Students must see their advisers each semester before the registration period for the next semester.
