Dr. Judith Jellison

2007-08 Endowed Chairholder in Music Education


Judith Jellison has been an internationally recognized leader in music education for students with special needs and music therapy for over three decades. She received the prestigious Senior Researcher Award from MENC in 2004. Her scholarly articles have appeared in virtually every American and international journal which addresses these areas, and her accessibly written work in widely circulated publications such as Music Educators Journal and the recently published text The Child as Musician:  A Handbook of Musical Development (McPherson, Ed.) has opened the doors for inclusive strategies for countless practitioners in North America, Asia, and Europe.  She has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Music Therapy, the Journal of Research in Music Education, Texas Music Education Research, and has been a guest reviewer for Psychology of Music. Additionally, she was a member of the Housewright Commission and a contributing author to MENC's Vision 20-20, which defined music education in the 21st century.
