MP3 Files

The School of Music makes available many recordings stored online in streaming mp3 format. All of these recordings contain works and performances that are license-free; they may be downloaded freely and legally.

To listen, you can use a recent version of Windows Media Player or Quicktime Player (on the Mac) or one of the following:

• XMMS (Unix)
• Zinf (Win, Unix; descendent of FreeAmp)
• Winamp (Win)
• Sonique (Win)
• Audion (Mac)

The mp3s have an average bit rate of either 128 kbps (music) or 64 kbps (speech). Likely you will need a fast Internet connection, e.g., DSL, cable, or better, for trouble-free listening.
